NEWS: I’m happy to be part of LSEB’s initiative – MI

Hip hop and rap artist, Jude Abaga (aka MI), Energy Ambassador of Lagos State Electricity Board (LSEB), said he is excited to be a part of the energy conservation initiative by the Lagos State Government.

In the same vein, the General Manager, Lagos State Electricity Board (LSEB), Mrs. Damilola Ogunbiyi, disclosed that grand finale of the public enlightenment campaign on energy conservation at the Energy Experience Centre, at Mega Plaza, Victoria Island, Lagos at the weekend.

She said CESM was a behavioural change communication; hence it would take some time before people could fully appreciate the benefits of the programme.

As part of strategies to sustain the initiative, she stated that efforts would be geared towards intensifying energy conservation awareness at the governmental level, in schools, hospitals and the community at large. ‘‘We are looking for different ways to reinforce the messages; showing the public that we are not just talking about energy conservation, but we are also doing it as government’’, she added.

Ogunbiyi said further that a dedicated team from LSEB would also continue the campaign while energy conservation would form part of discussion on power at next year’s Lagos Economic Summit. ‘‘Just because it is the end of Energy Conservation Month does not mean the end of energy conservation campaign.

‘‘As part of our PATH agenda for the state, ‘P’ is power, so at next year’s Lagos Economic Summit there will be a flavour of energy conservation. So we see this as an ongoing thing that is part of our government now’’, she noted.

On the possibility of adopting October as a permanent commemoration date for Energy Conservation Month, she assured that government would continue to build on the success of this year’s campaign by making energy conservation a permanent event in the state.

Sheurging the residents to embrace energy conservation wholeheartedly, the LSEB general manager noted that the public lightning of the state has achieved tremendous milestone not just in terms of length of coverage, but in the aesthetic enhancement of the state.
