Artiste Hype

Though Grafton Entertainment started Grafton Records with initial acts on the Hip Hop & RnB scene, Gospel music has been a genre they have always admired. Now with their latest signing J Boy (Jesus Boy), Nigeria’s internationally renowned label has officially ventured into the Gospel genre.
According to label founder and CEO Tonye Ibiama, Grafton have been tracking Jesus Boy for a good few years.
“We have had our eyes on J Boy since 2005 when he had his first collaboration with De Indispensables on ‘Sweet Mama’ which became the first song from Port Harcourt to make it to the MTV Base playlist and made big waves in Nigeria, UK and the US. We recognized then that he is not only a very dynamic and gifted singer, but also a unique songwriting talent who draws his inspiration and motivation from both his surroundings in Port Harcourt, and the faith he has in God Almighty.”
Jesus Boy is a music man to the bone. The ministral of the Almighty has participated in various talent hunt shows and events that has made him a household name in the south region and put a marker down on the Nigerian music scene as a whole. He’s won various awards such as: Akonaki, Best Soloist (RCCG), Best Artist of the Year (CMTV), Best Artist of the Year (Sound2Soul). He has also produced two successful albums and has proved himself a great performer with his own band One Spirit.
J Boy grew up in Port Harcourt and there is none more popular on its familiar streets. His concerts at local churches are patronised by a gospel audience that embraces him with open arms. Grafton’s project is not to take him away from that gospel following but rather to gather him and that devout base and lift them beyond their gospel roots by plugging them into the mainstream. With the wider exposure the message in the music can have a stronger impact and win more souls for the Lord.
The proof of this effort will be heard in J Boy’s fisrt single, ‘Take it by Force’. We have twitched the style a little different just to open the door to that everyday airplay that J Boy has been fighting to achieve and more than deserved for many years. With Grafton’s take on J Boy’s unequalled gospel-reggae style, we expected to hear the man take his sound to the people from Monday all the way to his beloved Sunday. The follow up single ‘worthy’ also shows this new style with the two different versions

‘worthy’ is the second single from J Boy’s upcoming third album titled ‘Champion’ which will be released under Grafton Streetz label.
