I remember walking into De-large studio many years back. I remember seeing Duncan Mighty for the first time and was left awed with not only his melodious sound that he wields but his complimentary prowess as a producer. Instantly, a new fan was born, which happens to be my humble self.
Little was I surprised when his first album hit the stores and offered great hits that put the Harcourt music scene on the map again. I watched him churn out hits successively to the point where his name became synonymous with Port Harcourt and it’s environs. The knack of postulating who trends and who would stay on the radar for a longtime was something I inherited from a music loving father, who dissects songs with me, spots the putrid content and give appraisals to whoever earns it.

In Dubai, Lagos and the arctic region, play a Duncan tune and even the most revered sheikh would nod his head to it. His failings? His failings still remains him being comfortable with Port Harcourt rather than plying his trade outside the shores of this city and competing with other front-liners who adore him secretly . When the tweet from Davido about Duncan simmered through my news feed it did put a stamp to all my assertions; that Duncan should be getting better accolades. That he should sack his entire managerial team and employ IT savy, innovative and dynamic team that would re-brand him as the king that he truly is. That he should learn to put out quality videos after any album he let’s of the leash.
Have you listened to IF by Davido? What about his current release tag FALL? Put your earphones and see Davido reeking of Duncan Mighty from start to finish. He copied his unique chorus style of delivery and those mind-blowing backups and add-leaps that serenades the soul. What Davido has succeeded in doing is telling our Harcourt first son that his style is still in trend and can even match any song anywhere in the world. If you doubt this, then go listen to R.Kelly’s cover of IF and tell me you don’t
